The Bright Print Group of Companies
Location – 8-10 Frank Street, Wetherill Park, NSW, Australia
The Environmental Policy of the Bright Group of Companies has been founded upon the principles of
minimising our utilization of non-renewable resources and maximizing recycling opportunities. The
Directors of the organization take full responsibility for the development, monitoring and fulfillment
of our environmental policy and procedures. These procedures are more fully documented within
our Quality Assurance Policy and Procedures Manual, which complies with ISO9001.
All staff are encouraged to look for opportunities to improve upon our current recycling efforts and
environmental management systems. All personnel who have purchasing responsibilities are
directed to ensure that they procure products/inputs which are environmentally friendly and/or
contain recyclable components where available.
The scope our of policy includes all inputs, and outputs of the organisation including, emissions to
air, releases to water, releases to land and use of raw materials and natural resources.
The company intends to implement formal Environmental procedures in line with AS/NZS ISO
14001:2004 to compliment our audited quality assurance system to ISO9001:2000.
Consideration is to be given to aspects related to the oragnisation’s activities, products and
services including:
Design and implementation
Manufacturing processes
Packaging and Transportation
Environmental performance and practices of contractors and suppliers
Waste Management
Distribution, use and end-of-life of products
Paper
All waste paper is captured in cages which are cleared 4 times a week by J&C Grima, contract
recycled paper collectors. Where larger offcuts are available these are stored and distributed free-
of-charge to various Government High Schools and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
Office waste is to be sorted between paper and kitchen products. Office paper waste is to be
relocated to the cages within the factory area for recycling.
All used cartons and boxes are cut up and segregated into a separate cage for cardboard waste,
this cage is to be cleared on a weekly basis by a J&C Grima. Cartons in good condition are to be
reused for packaging of printed products.
Where possible our clientele are encouraged to utilize the expanding range and increased
availability of recycled paper products.
Film
All used film is to be stripped and placed into a separate cage located in prepress for collection by
Siltech International. This film is then recycled by Siltech International in accordance with All used film is to be stripped and placed into a separate cage located in prepress for collection by Siltech International. This film is then recycled by Siltech International in accordance with Australian Standards.
Silver RecoverySilver Recovery Units are to be attached to all commissed Imagesetters for the capturing of silver
flake. This silver flake is to be collected by Siltech International. Any silver contained within the film collected by Siltech International is also stripped from the film
upon receipt.
Plates
All used/rejected metal plates are to be collected and stored awaiting collection by a registered
waste metal collector for recycling.
In June, 2004, a Computer-to-plate unit was installed for the purpose of eliminating all non-
essential use of film within our production facility. The introduction of this CTP unit will also reduce
the need for the use of chemicals necessary for the development of film
Water
We continually strive to minimise the use of water through the following objectives:
a. Elimination of water intensive processes
b. Washup of equipment using water substitutes
c. No hard washing of any surfaces throughout factory
d. Regular maintenance of all taps and toilets
e. Monitoring of our water accounts
f. Native vegetation in garden areas
g. Water emissions are monitored by Sydney Water on a yearly basis to ensure
compliance. Trade Waste Permit no. 17475. Water is filtered through a tank prior to
emission to the sewer. Resultant sludge is collected by Collex on an annual basis.
Chemicals
It is the policy of Bright Print to purchase water miscible chemicals where possible. Any chemical
which cannot be disposed of via our sewer system is to be collected in decantable drums and
stored within specified areas of the factory. These chemicals when at a level not exceeding
200litres are to be collected by the appropriate waste management company, or chemical
collection agency.
The Bright Group is committed to continue to explore opportunities for the future elimination of all
non-water miscible chemical use within our organization.
Where possible we strive to use non-solvent based inks and washup solutions.
We prefer to use soya/vegetable based inks depending upon the application of the ink and the end
use of the product.
Aluminium Cans
Throughout the factory there are various bins assigned to the collection of aluminum drink cans.
These cans are donated on a regular interval to our local Lions Club for recycling.
Plastic
We are committed to reduce our reliance on plastic wrapping and to purchase where possible,
recycled plastic wrapping. We are continuing to explore opportunities for the recycling on pallet
wrapping which is used as a shipper for paper products.
Pallets
All pallets are stored awaiting collection by our paper merchants. Damaged pallets used throughout
the factory are repaired.
I.T. Equipment
Redundant computers, monitors and phones are sold via Ebay.

Air Emissions
Our emissions are monitored and limited to a filter system upon one of our large Komori presses.
The purpose of this filter system is to extract spray powder residue away from the press for optimal
operation. This powder is filtered prior to release to the air.
Releases to Water
Where possible we purchase water miscible chemicals. Ink Sludge is collected and tinned. Water
from machinery washup is discharged to a holding tank where it is filtered prior to release to the
sewer system. This filter and holding tank is cleared every 12 months by Collex. The system is
audited and approved by Sydney Water every 12 months.
Releases to Land
All perishable waste is collected by a waste management service. All non-perishable waste is
sorted for recycling.
Use of Materials and Natural Resources
Where possible recycled products are to be used. A recently installed Power Correction Unit is now
in operation which has reduced our energy consumption by 25%. We will continue to seek improved
methods of operation and energy usage to minimise our use of water and electricity.
